Genesis Energy Index
Energy technologies are often compared as though the technology alone determines the outcome.
It does not.
Cost, output, environmental impact, deployment time, resilience, land requirements and regional conditions can all change whether the same technology represents a strong decision in one environment and a poor one somewhere else.
The Genesis Energy Index was created to evaluate energy technologies in context.
Energy in Context
GEI is a comparative decision system for evaluating the suitability of energy technologies against the conditions in which they may actually be deployed.
Rather than asking which technology is universally best, the system asks a more useful question: which technology, or combination of technologies, is most appropriate here?
GEI considers technical performance alongside regional conditions, cost, environmental burden, resilience, utilisation, land requirements, implementation timescales and other factors that influence real world viability.
The result is a comparative view that places the technology and its deployment environment inside the same analytical framework.
Beyond Isolated Metrics
Individual metrics can tell very different stories about the same technology.
A system may perform strongly on emissions while requiring significant land. Another may offer exceptional output but introduce greater infrastructure cost. A lower cost technology may become less attractive once utilisation, resilience or regional conditions are considered.
None of those measurements is necessarily wrong. The problem arises when one is treated as though it represents the whole decision.
GEI brings those competing conditions together so that trade offs become visible rather than disappearing behind a single favourable metric.
Comparison, Not Prescription
GEI is designed to support judgement, not replace it.
The index provides a consistent framework through which technologies, projects and deployment scenarios can be compared. Assumptions remain visible, inputs can be examined and different scenarios can be tested against one another.
This allows decision makers to understand not only which option scores more strongly, but why.
Who It Is For
GEI is intended for organisations making consequential decisions about energy and infrastructure.
This can include governments, developers, institutions, infrastructure operators, investors, researchers and community projects comparing technologies or exploring different deployment scenarios.
The common requirement is not a particular sector or technology. It is the need to understand an energy decision in the context in which that decision will actually operate.
